There are many reasons why learning a new language is a good idea.
Obviously, it allows you to communicate with new people.

What's more, learning another language even has health benefits! 
Studies have shown that people who speak multiple languages have more active minds later in life.

But of all the languages in the world, why learn English?
First of all, English is the official language in more than 25% of the world's countries. 
This equates to approximately 400 million people who speak English as their first language. 
When considering people who speak English as an additional language, that number jumps to nearly 1.4 billion.

That's a lot of new people you can communicate with just by improving one language.

When it comes right down to it, English is the most widely spoken language in the world.

For example, airplane announcements, emergency information, and street signs are often translated into English.
